ThermoFisher Applied Science Solutions Program (ASSP) Competition
Thermo Fisher Scientific is again sponsoring the ASSP Competition November 6 in Logan, Utah. This year the topic is "The Science of Water". Preston Junior High is sending two teams to the competition. The two teams have picked the topics of Solar Disinfection of Water, and Generating Electricity for Times of Natural Disaster or Economic Hardships. They have learned about culturing and growing bacteria, testing water samples, using magnets and copper coils with a turning motion to create electricity, and many other things. With help from their Thermo Fisher mentors: Molly Regennitter, Mitchell Burroughs, and former Prestonite, Adam Higley, they have started some pretty amazing research and projects that we are sure will place well at the competition. Camille Jensen and Catherine Purser are the science teachers that are helping head the teams.
We are excited to see how the teams do at the competition and wish them the best of luck making it the finals. Each team is awarded $250 for their school for participation and if the teams place, there is a chance they will earn into the thousands of dollars for the school. Best of luck!
