Science Projects

Guidelines and Instructions

For the fall semester you will choose to do the Insect Collection or the Nature Observation Journal. Your choice in the fall will determine what project you do in the spring. For example, if you choose the Insect collection you would do the Bird and Mammal Notebook in the spring. If you choose to do the Nature Journal in the fall you will do the Plant Collection in the spring. Therefore, you are required to do one collection and one observation. You will NOT need to do both collections.
For more information on these and other projects, please contact your science teacher.
All projects turned in 2 or more days before the due date will be awarded 50 extra credit points. Projects turned in 1 day early will be given 25 extra points. When turned in after the due date, 100 points will be deducted.

Fall Projects
You will do one or the other, not both.
Your project is due
Monday, October 7, 2019.

Insect Collection

Insect boxes can be purchased from the science department for $15 with glass or $10 without. Hansen Glass can cut glass for $5 to fit your box if desired.
Below are the documents and instructions you will need for your insect project.  We will be having a pinning lab in class that teaches you how to pin your bugs. You will not have time to pin all of your bugs in class, but we will teach you the proper way to do it. Plan on the additional time at home to finish your collection. Pins are available at the PJH office. They come in a box of 100, so you can find a friend to split them with.

Feedback & Suggestions

We want to hear from you. Every group of students is different, and standards for our science curriculum have been added to as well. If you have a suggestion or feedback now that the insect collection and project are completed, we would love to hear it - just use the form at the bottom of this page. It has been a delight to see students stretch themselves and create something that exemplifies the things we are learning in class.

If you have suggestions or feedback on science projects, please let us know. Compliments are also welcome.
